Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary, Chicago, 9/18/2021
A magnolia warbler taking a bath, a worn golden-crowned kinglet, and an intimate warbling vireo
All these photos were taken with my old, weaker lens, which is much lighter and therefore was easier to lug to Chicago. When I went to the Jarvis Bird Sanctuary in the morning, a couple of birders told me I had to go to the Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary nearby, which in the late afternoon I did. The birders had told me that there was a “magic hedge” at Montrose Point, where warbler after warbler appeared. I’m pretty sure I found the right hedge. In an artificial creek underneath the hedge, the magnolia warbler below decided to take a bath. It usually takes me a few visits before I figure out a birding patch well enough to see much, but there was almost too much going on at Montrose Point for me to take it all in.
